In addition to its collection on the artistic and literary landscape of the Höri peninsula, the Hesse Museum in Gaienhofen presents the newly-designed permanent exhibition “Gaienhofen detours. Hermann Hesse and his 1st house” at the actual location. The former dwelling and studio of the writer and Nobel Prize Winner for literature, Hermann Hesse, where he lived and worked from 1904 to 1907, now be- longs to the museum. Temporary special exhibitions and events complete the program.
The museum consists of two historic buildings that frame an idyllic village square with a chapel. The former school and town hall now houses the ticket office area with a small café. The art and literary landscape of the Höri peninsula on Lake Constance is presented here and special exhibitions are organised.
In the poet's first home in Gaienhofen (1904-1907), located next door, the exhibition ‘Gaienhofener Umwege. Hermann Hesse and his 1st house’ is on show at the authentic location.
